Bealey valley, Arthurs Pass

The day after New Year's Day, my brother and I climbed the track from Arthurs Pass village to Avalanche Peak. A great day in the Southern Alps — but any day with a view like this is a great day. Looking down the Bealey valley to its confluence with the Waimakariri.

Kia ora Pete,
What a great place to sit in the sun for a bit, as it floats in and out of those clouds up there, have a drink and a snack, and just look around with a smile. Brings out the wanderlust in me. Soon!
Cheers,
Robb

Another beautiful photograph Pete.

I've never really spent any time in that part of the country. When we come back to NZ for good, I have so many places I want to explore more - this is one of them

Robb, it brings out my wanderlust too.

Zhoen, not much covering the bones in much of New Zealand's mountains — some are hardly more than huge piles of broken rock.

Leonie, thanks. Arthurs Pass is wonderful, and this track is popular for good reasons during the summer. Don't do it in winter, though — again, for an obvious reason (the name's well deserved).
